That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.
Philippians 3:10

In my opinion it is easy to understand what Jesus’ death means for us. But not so with His resurrection. At least this is how it was in my life. When the conviction of the Holy Spirit comes upon us and we see our sin for what it is, we naturally seek forgiveness and the death of Jesus on the cross is an answer to our cry. It doesn’t have to be explained much, we know and experience the power of it as our guilt is taken away. In Philippians 3:10 Paul says that He wants to know Christ Himself – an intimate knowledge of Him, to know the fellowship of His sufferings – to join Him in His sacrifice for the Church (Colossians 1:24), and the power of His resurrection. It is the power of His resurrection that we will focus on.

“Making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know…what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places…”   Ephesians 1:16-18,19-20. As we seek the knowledge of the resurrection of Christ we need to realize that this can only be comprehended through the active influence the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God. Secondly we need to realize its importance, in Philippians Paul says he wants to know it himself, in Ephesians he prays for others to know it. And thirdly it is not a small thing, but we are talking about the exceeding greatness of His power   and His mighty power   here. The true living knowledge of it will have a massive impact on your life, it did on mine.

And you He made alive with Christ, who were dead in trespasses and sins, and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
Ephesians 2:1,5-6

It is the present victory over sin in our lives by our righteous conduct that the power of resurrection gives us. Both in Romans 6 and Ephesians 2 Paul describes this glorious reality. How we are united with Christ in His death so that we might have forgiveness of sin and sin may no longer have dominion over us and secondly how we are united with Christ in His resurrection that we can walk in the newness of life. In everything we can actively do the things what we were created for. We can truly live and love!

Old things have passed away; Behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17

Knowing the power of the resurrection will give us a completely new lives and identity. Our desires, feelings, dreams, thoughts and action will change. As the song says “we will never be the same”. I pray that God would reveal to you this glorious reality so that “If you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind and affections on the things above, not on things on the earth.”   Colossians 3:1-2

For His glory.
